Silica Sand
High purity silica engineered for glass, foundry and industrial applications.
Silica is the name given to a group of minerals composed of Silica and Oxygen, the two most abundant elements in the earth's crust. Silica found commonly in the crystalline state and rarely in an amorphous state. Silica Sand deposits are normally exploited by quarrying and the material extracted may undergo considerable processing before sale. The objectives of processing are to reduce impurities and increase the grade of Silica present and to produce the optimum size distribution of the product depending upon end use.

Applications
Where silica sand goes to work.

Construction Chemicals
Silica sand provides packing density and flexural strength in flooring compounds, mortars, cements, and asphalt. Ground silica adds durability, anti-corrosion, and weathering resistance in epoxy compounds, sealants, and caulks.

Traffic Paints and Texture Coating
Micron-sized silica improves paint appearance, durability, and color consistency. It enhances tint retention, weathering resistance, and abrasion resistance in architectural and industrial coatings.

Ceramics and Refractories
Ground silica is essential in ceramic glazes and bodies as a skeletal structure that controls thermal expansion, drying, and shrinkage. It also provides high-temperature resistance in refractories.

Sports and Leisure
Silica sand is used in golf bunkers, greens, and synthetic turf as a structural component with controlled permeability for drainage, root aeration, and plant growth.

Foundry Castings
Silica sand enables high-integrity castings due to its high melting point and refractory properties. It is used in moulds and investment casting for jewellery, turbine blades, and dental bridges.

Filtration
Silica sand is an effective media for drinking water and wastewater filtration, with uniform grain size and chemical inertness that prevents degradation.

Glass Reinforced Cement
Silica sand provides high heat resistance and low thermal expansion in GRC, with fibres made from silica compounds melted at 1710°C for reinforcement.

Oil and Gas Recovery
As frac sand, silica proppant is pumped into wells to keep fissures open, using its hardness and chemical purity to resist crushing in deep, high-pressure environments.

Metallurgical
Silica sand is the raw material for silicon metal and ferrosilicon, used in aluminium, copper, nickel alloys, and steel production.

Agriculture
Silica serves as a soil conditioner and carrier for fertilizers and animal feed additives in farming and horticulture.

Laboratory Testing
Silica sand is used for moisture absorption and density testing due to its uniform grain shape and low compaction properties.

Glass Industries
Silica is the primary ingredient in all types of glass including containers, flat glass, tableware, and optical glass. Fine silica flour is used for glass fibres.
